California native, Richard received his Bachelor of Science degree
from California State University, Sonoma in 1977, graduating Magna
Cum Laude. Richard earned his law degree from Western State
University in l981 where he was a member of the Law Review and
graduated in the top 10% of his class.
Richard began his legal career with
Rose, Klein & Marias as a third party personal injury attorney from
1982 to 1987. Richard handled personal injury claims involving
products liability, construction site accidents and motor vehicle
In 1987, Richard joined Fremont
Compensation Insurance Company, where he worked exclusively on
subrogation cases and later became a partner in the firm named
Johnston & Auerbach. During his last two years at Fremont, from 1998
to 2000, Richard supervised seven panel law firms and was
responsible for subrogation claims from San Diego to Fresno.
Joining Veatch Carlson in 2000,
Richard continued to handle Fremont subrogation cases and later
became responsible for defending premises liability and workers'
Richard joined Trovillion, Inveiss &
Demakis in November of 2007 and brings extensive knowledge of
workers' compensation and subrogation cases, including investigation
When he isn't golfing, Richard enjoys
spending relaxing time with his family and 14-year-old cat named
Bandit. Richard also enjoys spending quiet time in Sierra Madre,
sipping a hot cup of coffee on the weekends.
